The baseline survey of engineering departments of Kenyan universities was part of the e-readiness survey of universities research series. Engineering baseline survey was carried out in 12 universities which were offering engineering courses. The baseline survey was part of the preparation to a comprehensive e readiness survey of engineering departments in Kenya. However, baseline surveys of ICT departments and medical schools are yet to be released.
Out of ten highly competitive proposals from different institutions competing for the award of the Raspberry Pi project grant, four proposals won $10,000 mini-grant award each! The winning proposals were; ‘Re-imagining electrical engineering education using Raspberry Pi” from Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology; the project is led by Dr. Ciira Maina a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, “Use of Raspberry Pi in teaching ICT courses at Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST)” from MUST; the project is led by Mr.
KENET in collaboration with IEEE Kenya chapter hosted a three day virtual conference on Green Communications Technology starting 12th January to 14th January, 2016. The virtual conference was organized by the IEEE Kenya Chapter in partnership with the KENET Special Interest Group on Engineering Education and Research.
KENET through its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) successfully organized a One-day Education Engineering Forum. The main aim of the forum was to launch of the Baseline Survey of Engineering Departments and to disseminate the results of the Raspberry PI Student-Owned Labs for Engineering Education project. The forum was hosted at the Safari Park Hotel on 30thOctober 2015.
The forum brought together over 76 participants from 36 engineering departments of 18 KENET member institutions. These included deans and faculty members of engineering departments in Kenyan Universities.
KENET held half-day joint meeting for the Special Interest Groups in Engineering Education and Education Technology on July 15, 2015 at the KENET boardroom. The meeting was also attended by the Raspberry Pi grantees.
